Individual Task 4- The Dalai Lama

1.) Give a brief description of who the Dalai Lama is? (Include resources to support)

The Dalai Lama is a great Buddhist and Tibetan spiritual leader. He is fighting for Tibet’s freedom from China. He is the leader of the Guleg sect of Tibetan Buddhism. He has been living in exile in Dharamsala, India.    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalai_Lama

2.) Evaluate how the actions of the Dalai Lama in regard to the riots in Tibet would be regarded as exemplary moral integrity.

The Dalai Lama said he would retire if the violence continued. This was because he and the Buddhist religion believe in nonviolence. This can be regarded as exemplary moral integrity because it shows that he is more concerned with the principles rather than his own self interest.

Journal Entry 15

1.) There are always TWO sides to a conscience. What would Roger’s conscience be telling him?

Roger’s conscience will be telling him that he msut jump in the water to save that kid whatever its temperature or however good his clothes. At the back of his mind he knows that if something happens to that kid, including death, he will be responsible. All these feelings will be coming to him as he knows that saving the kid is a very easy job for him because he is a really good swimmer. He also knows that his clothes are less important than the kid’s life and that he will get new clothes if these clothes get ruined.

2.) Think of an example of Jesus’ teaching and explain how his teachings can help us to make an appropriate decision?

Jesus’ teachings will help us make an appropriate decision as his teachings tell you to think for others as you would think for yourself. If you would think so, you would obviously save the boy.

1. What does being in relationship with God require me to do?

It requires me pray to God. I will have to hold him in high esteem and with a high level of respect.

2. What does loving my neighbour as myself require me to do?

It requires me to understand that he is a person of equal stature as myself and has equal rights and respect as I do therefore I must treat him as I would treat myself.

Individual Task 3- Maximillian Kolbe

1.) Define the term ‘moral integrity’

 A) Moral Integrity can be your values, beliefs, & character put together to form a set of ideals that you follow. This set of ideals that you have with you determine what kind of conscience you might have, and what decision you will take when you come to a choice. If you have a belief that stealing is a good thing to do, you will not think before you do it. However, if you believe stealing is wrong, you will consider before you do it. Your moral integrity determines how you react under certain situations and under pressure from other people or factors influencing your life.

2.) Describe why Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as a Christian of exemplary moral integrity.

 A) Maximillian Kolbe is regarded as a Christian of exemplary moral integrity becuase of his selfless thinking and extraordinary brave actions. He did not look at the fact that he was throwing away his life for a person he did not know, instead he saw the fact that he was doing an hounarable duty by saving a life. Also another reason to justify Maxmillian’s high level of moral integrity is the fatc that there are very few people in this world who will sacrifice their life to save another person who they don’t know.

3.) Outline Maximillians ethical actions/principles that he demonstrated in Auschwitz.

 A) Maximillian was a priest and was firm about his principles as a priest. He spread hope by saying that their suffering would but only take them to God. His actions like the removal of the bodies, the spreading of hope and his sacrifice of life clearly showed that he was a man of strong principles and ethics. Him being a priest increased his responsibility of consoling others and to save a life. Ethically, everyone should accomplish what good they can do and Maximillian did without hesitation.

4.) Evaluate whether you think he made the right decision and provide research to support your answer. i.e. Catholic teachings.

 A) I think that Maximillian made the right decision. The significant decisions he made were:

1. Moved bodies in a depressed state.
2. Spread hope and joy.
3. Fulfilled duties as a priest in such conditions.
4. Gave up his life to save someone else.

According to the Catholic Church’s teaching’s all the decisions Maxmillian made were correct:

1. He moved bodies even after he was tortured and physically dead. The Catholic Church teaches that when others are down & out, you should work as an inspiration to lift them up. Also you must not neglect the dead and shold treat them them with respect. In this case you should give them a solemn funeral or respectfully bury them.
2. The Catholic Church appoints the role to priests that they must be leaders for others who are lost and have no one. They have to play a Christly role for the people of today by being out there in the front. In this case Maximillian reassures the other prisoners that the final destination is heaven.
3. A priest is selected in order to do his duties in whatever condition, just as Christ did in the face of death. Maxmillian played his role as a priest by hearing prisoner’s confessions.
4. The Catholic Church strongly promotes the sacrifice of one self or something to help/save others just like Jesus did sacrifice his life for his followers. Maximillian gave up his life to save a fellow prisoner.  

 

       

Journal Entry 11

1. Interactive TV, the limit to of having control over television has increased over the time. At the start, you could just increase or decrease the volume, change the channels and turn the TV on and off. Even this was without the use of a remote controller. It evolved to the world we have today in which we can record TV and rewing it, pause it or play it according to convienience. Interactive TV is in a way the amount of control you have over how you watch TV and the featues you have. Also real time voting has become a great feature in today’s TV shows.

1. YouTube has been used as a source of digital media advertising as it gets forwrd to a much larger number of people. Also due to YouTube being a very popular site, many watch the videos and therefore advertisements on it.

2. sites have changed the boundaries of advertising as you can watch anything from any part of the world as long as you have the internte. You can also watch the news online, TV shows etc. This gives the viewer a much higher access to such media

Group Task 2     This is my group moral development theory task.
